Notes: Interpol sounds like Joy Division...slightly. Whether it is YouTube or All Music Guide, the comparisons between the two are ubiquitous. I don't want to keep on hearing the comparisons. Joy Division is a "happy" band with uplifting guitar rifts and a steady percussion. Interpol as I said is "dark". Now does Ian Curtis sound like Paul Banks? Yes, he certainly does. Listen to "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and "Dead Souls" by Joy Division and then listen to any Interpol song. You will notice the similarity, no doubt. Vocal similarity...that's all. Now, does Interpol sound like Editors? No, not at all. YouTube video commenters try to say that they are just copying Interpol, but I mean what the hell? They sound nothing a like. These Interpol fan boys need to see Editors live.
WTF are you talking about? Joy Division is a happy band? Closer is one of the darkest albums of all time. Here's a description of the album:Many of its songs have a despairing, funeral feel, and its cover art appears to reflect this, although it was chosen by Peter Saville before he had heard any of the music; both the photo and the bleakness of the music and lyrics amplified the already strong mystique surrounding the album after Curtis's suicide. How is that uplifting? I recommend "isolation" and "Means to an End." The tell me they were a joyal bunch.
