Surrounding crews help Melrose firefighters


MELROSE — Crews from at least 11 communities, including Wakefield, helped Melrose firefighters battle a four-alarm blaze in a two-family home on Franklin Street Wednesday afternoon, not too far from Greenwood Street.
Our town's athletes, however, would have just let Melrose burn.

Firefighters fear blaze will head eastward


The big fear now for firefighters battling the Martin fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains is that the blaze will creep eastward into the steep, heavily wooded canyons.

Let's hope they can stop that from happening...

Firefighters attack State House


A sea of several hundred chanting firefighters dressed in red T-shirts marched on the State House today to defend their reputations after what union officials described as months of attacks and “bogus stories” planted in the press by City Hall.

The lesson here is, don't believe anything you read. Except for that. Believe that.

Firefighters are battling a four-alarm blaze in a six-family apartment house on
Colonial Avenue in Dorchester.
Let's hope everyone gets out safely.

"As far as I know all the tenants are out of the building," said fire spokesman Steven MacDonald.

Once again, firefighter is the "sexiest" job title, according to a survey from
Salary.com, a Waltham provider of on-demand compensation and talent

services that help businesses better manage pay and performance.
And once again, "news blogger" has failed to make the list. Sigh.

Fire in Stoneham Square last night


STONEHAM - Wakefield Firefighters played a pivotal role in containing a four-alarm fire that heavily damaged an apartment and floral shop in Stoneham Square last night and at one point endangered the landmark Stoneham Theatre.

Two Stoneham firefighters were injured, and one remains hospitalized today.
