Doctors Who Refuse To Kill Patients

DOCTORS who refuse to help terminally ill patients to kill themselves when they request to die are "genuinely wicked", a leading ethics expert has told a public debate in Belfast.

Speaking in favour of euthanasia, Baroness Mary Warnock also said that doctors and nurses should encourage terminally ill patients to decide, while still relatively healthy, whether to be helped commit suicide when they reach a seriously ill state.

Baroness Warnock, who last year caused worldwide controversy when she said that some dementia patients had a "duty" to seek death, said last night: "I think that people should be able to beseech their doctors, nurses to end their life when it is no longer worth living (in the patient's eyes]." - Newsletter.co.uk
It's a doctor's duty to, uh, not harm a patient.

Adult Women and Fake Babies

WASHINGTON - Many people like to stop and play with newborn babies, but now some adult women are playing house with fake babies.

Some women are even going as far as taking day trips with the fake babies to the park, out to eat, and even hosting birthday parties for them.

Forty-nine-year-old Linda is married with no children of her own. Now, she says she feels like a mother because she has Reborns -- dolls made to look and feel like the real thing.

"It's not a crazy habit, like, you know, drinking, or some sort of, something that's going to hurt you. It's like a hobby.and it doesn't really hurt anybody," Linda said. - WJLA
It doesn't hurt anybody, but it's really really screwed up.

Song of the Day (1/6/08)

The PFYFH - Willowing

Summer Heights High

Let me start off by saying that I rarely ever watch T.V. I occasionally watch sports, but other than that I'm mostly an online person (the most obvious exception is the amazing show Curb Your Enthusiasm, but it hasn't aired since 2007). So anyway...My sister has been quoting Summer Heights High for a couple of weeks now. I don't blame her because I am now partially hooked. It's On Demand on Comcast in case anyone wants to check it out. Basically, one guy (Chris Lilley) plays three different characters. All three are hilarious. There is Jonah, a 14 year old illiterate wanksta who is always getting in trouble at Summer Heights High, an Australian public school. There is Ja'mie, a female exchange student who thinks she is the shit. And finally you have Mr. G, Summer Heights High Director of Performing Arts. Lilley is a comic genius and for that reason you should watch this show.

Buy Local

"Buy local” seems to be a powerful message in Montana where we tend to have a strong sense of place and a good dose of common sense. But the local food movement is about more than what consumers buy, although that is an important part of the equation. We are literally trying to build a local food economy that can serve and even expand these new markets in terms of production, processing and distribution. Moving toward a system of greater self-reliance when it comes to food — an essential need — increases our security, as factors like climate change, food safety, and rising oil prices raise serious questions about the sustainability of the global food system we have come to depend on. To meet these goals, though, we need to protect working landscapes now. - savekauai.org
White people love to buy local.

Ann Coulter Cut From NBC

The nation's top selling conservative author has been banned from appearing on NBC, insiders tell the DRUDGE REPORT.

Banned for life!

"We are just not going to have her on any more, it's over," a top network source explains.

NBC's TODAY show abruptly cut Ann Coulter from its planned Tuesday broadcast, claiming the schedule was overbooked.

But executives at NBC TODAY replaced Coulter with showbiz reporter Perez Hilton, who recently offered $1,000 to anyone who would throw a pie at Ann Coulter. Hilton is also launching a new book this week, RED CARPET SUICIDE.
As you may recall NBC pulled a similar shenanigan by censoring Rage Against the Machine a few years back.

Iraq Update: Talabani Thanks U.S

Talabani thanked the United States for helping create a democratic Iraq "which will serve as a model for other peoples of the eastern world." He explicitly praised U.S. President George W. Bush for the "courageous and historic" decision to topple dictator Saddam.

U.S. ambassador Ryan Crocker said the embassy's opening marked a new era for ties between the countries as "equals."

But some Iraqis, like Basim al-Hindi, 46, a security guard working in downtown Baghdad, saw more sinister motives behind the new coral-colored compound.

"They just want to retain their control in the heart of the Green Zone," he said. "The sovereignty is all America's."

U.S. forces on New Year's Day handed over responsibility to Iraqi troops for the Green Zone, a fortified compound in the heart of Baghdad off limits to most Iraqis. The new embassy, like the palace that housed it before, is located in the zone. - Yahoo! News

I wouldn't be surprised if Iraq is more democratic than the United States.

Jet Blue, TSA Settle in T-Shirt Case

JetBlue Airways and two officials with the U.S. Transportation Security Administration have paid $240,000 to settle charges that they illegally discriminated against an Iraqi-born U.S. resident who was barred from a flight until he covered his T-shirt, which carried an Arabic phrase, his attorneys announced yesterday.

The settlement paid Friday to Raed Jarrar, 30, of the District, ranks among the largest of its kind since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, according to the American Civil Liberties Union, which represented him. The payment came as another U.S. airline apologized to nine Muslim American passengers from the Washington area who were removed from a New Year's Day flight out of Reagan National Airport, prompting a discrimination complaint by a Muslim civil rights group. - Washington Post

The shirt, which reads "We will not be silent" in Arabic and English, is a bit provocative, but this guy has every right to wear it. The TSA, by nature, has to be strict on these issues.

Just for Glen. Happy Birthday man.

Soulja Boy Robbed At Gun Point

Rapper Soulja Boy is keeping relatively quiet about being robbed at gunpoint by six men who entered his Georgia home last Tuesday. The singer, whose real name is DeAndre Ramone Way, and several of his friends were in the home at the time of the attack.

On Wednesday a video turned up on the internet with two masked men claiming to be the robbers. Not only did they admit to the crime but they also said this isn’t the first time they have encountered Soulja Boy. The criminals said that they “stalked” him at the release party for his latest album iSouljaBoyTellem and followed him to his home after the party.

In the homemade video, the criminals shot down rumors that there were six guns involved and said that they had robbed him with one gun between the two of them. - Bitten and Bound

Boy Found Guilty of Murder

A 12-year-old boy who fatally shot his mother after an argument over his chores was found guilty of pre-meditated murder.

Judge James Conlogue found the boy guilty after a hearing on Friday in Cochise County Superior Court in the southern Arizona town of Bisbee. The boy is not being identified because he was charged as a juvenile.

Conlogue ruled that prosecutors had proved the boy acted intentionally and with pre-meditation when he shot Sara Madrid, 34, eight times on August 1. The shooting happened after the boy had argued with his mother over his chores.

Madrid had left the family home after the argument, and the boy got a .22-calibre pistol from her bedroom closet, waited for her to return and then repeatedly shot her, according to court testimony. - Yahoo!
I don't know if this is worse than the kid who murdered his mom for taking away Halo 3.

Richardson Withdraws

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson has withdrawn his name from consideration as commerce secretary for President-elect Barack Obama, citing an ongoing investigation about business dealings in his state.

Richardson, 61, who competed unsuccessfully for the Democratic presidential nomination, was secretary of energy and U.N. ambassador during Bill Clinton's presidency, and also the first high-profile Latino named to Obama's Cabinet.

But a grand jury in New Mexico is currently looking into charges of "pay-to-play" in the awarding of a state contract to a company that contributed to Richardson. - Washington Post

Oh snap. Sorry Bill.

$1 Trillion Aid to States

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Governors of five U.S. states urged the federal government to provide $1 trillion in aid to the country's 50 states to help pay for education, welfare and infrastructure as states struggle with steep budget deficits amid a deepening recession.

The governors of New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Ohio and Wisconsin -- all Democrats -- said the initiative for the two-year aid package was backed by other governors and follows a meeting in December where governors called on President-elect Barack Obama to help them maintain services in the face of slumping revenues.

Deval Patrick would be in favor of this.

Apology Accepted

You are probably wondering whether President-elect Obama owes the world an apology for his actions regarding global warming. The answer is, not yet. There is one person, however, who does. You have probably guessed his name: Al Gore.

Mr. Gore has stated, regarding climate change, that "the science is in." Well, he is absolutely right about that, except for one tiny thing. It is the biggest whopper ever sold to the public in the history of humankind. - Huffington Post
